Ronald William Oliver

Ronald William Oliver went home to be with his Lord on January 2, 2013 at the age of 70.  He was the loving husband of Nancy (Bowen) Oliver for 47 years, beloved father to Kevin Oliver and Kelli Huffer, second father to Rhonda Oliver and Chuck Huffer, and the proud grandfather to Kyle & Kymberly Oliver and Karlie & Dalton Huffer.

Ron graduated from Rossville High School in 1960, Porter Business College in 1961, and received a B.S. from Purdue University in 1967 and Masters in 1969.  He retired from Purdue University in February of 2006 after thirty-eight years as Fiscal Administrator for Student Organizations.  He was proud to be a Boilermaker and enjoyed the many people he worked with of whom many became some of his dearest and closest friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ira Arthur & Mabel Elizabeth Oliver of Rossville and survived by a brother James (wife Pam) also of Rossville.

He was a farm boy at heart and enjoyed his hay operation business for many years in which he would use the antique tractor he inherited from his father.  He was an avid Indianapolis 500 fan and shared that passion with his son.  He was always involved in the many activities of his children from 4-H, coaching little league, to coaching and training his daughter in track.  He loved to take field school trips with his children and eventually with his grandchildren.  His greatest earthly joy was spending time with his wife, children, and precious grandchildren.

His greatest passion in life was sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others.  He was a born teacher to both young people and adults through Sunday School, home Bible studies, and classes at the “World Objective Bible Institute” at Oakland Christian Church in Burlington.

Visitation will be at Genda (Bodine) Funeral Home in Rossville on Monday January 7th from 4-8 pm.  A private family burial will be on Tuesday January 8th followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Charity Baptist Church at 1718 N. 15th St. in Lafayette.  Website:  http://www.charitygodsway.org/
