Ruth M Felix

Ruth M. Felix, 94, of Mulberry, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.    

Ruth was born December 6, 1919, in Kosciusko County, near Sidney, the daughter of Dr. Freeman and Nora Ross Cripe.  She married Melvin D. Felix on November 4, 1935; he preceded her in death June 24, 1992.  

Ruth lived most of her life in the Rossville and Mulberry communities.  She graduated from Huffer Beauty Academy in Frankfort.  She was the owner and operator of Ruth’s Beauty Shop in Mulberry for 54-1/2 years, retiring in 2000 at the age of 80.  Ruth was an active member of the Mulberry Community Club and Home Study Circle.  She was a member of the Trinity Church of Mulberry as well as a choir member.  She was a former member of the Mulberry Mother’s Club.  She attended Lafayette Christian Women’s Organization and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Ruth enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling.  

Ruth is survived by a daughter-in-law, Janice Felix (Robert Haupert) of New Mexico; one granddaughter, Janell (Ben) Flesher; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Flesher; one great-grandson, Owen Flesher; one brother, Donald (Bonnie) Cripe; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Cripe; and several nieces and nephews.  

Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two sons, infant Richard Felix and James Felix; three brothers, Merl Cripe, Carl (Ann) Cripe, and Arden (Faye) Cripe; one sister, Helen (Willy) Mellinger; and special friend, Carl Hedderick.

Visitation for Ruth will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014, from 4-7 pm at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Trinity Church of Mulberry with 1-hour visitation prior at the church.  Pastor Phil Whisler will officiate.  Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery in Rossville.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth’s name may be made to Mulberry Public Library, Trinity Church of Mulberry, Mulberry Volunteer Ambulance Service, or James Felix Optimist 5/10K Memorial Run.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
