Ruth W. Tucker, 94, of Colfax, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
She was born May 2, 1919, in ¬¬¬¬Clinton County, the daughter of Charles and Faye V. Merrick Orem. On March 8, 1941, Ruth married Harry Clifford Tucker; he preceded her in death November 12, 1991.
The middle child of 11, Ruth graduated from Forest High School in 1938. She worked for a short time at the bake shop in the Purdue Union Building baking pies. She later graduated from Huffer Beauty College in 1961 and was a hairdresser for 38 years. Ruth was very talented in all crafts including crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitch and tatting. She had lived in the same house for 63 years. Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was a charter member of Hickory Homemakers and a member of Union Baptist Church.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Charlotte (Darwin) McKinney; one grandson, Dennis McKinney; a friend who was like a daughter, Barbara Garrison; two sisters, Vivian E. Karr of Ossian and Mary Juanita Sheffer of Forest; and two brothers, Leon (Julia Ann) Orem and Merle Orem both of Russiaville.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by five brothers, C.D. âDwightâ Orem, Joe Orem, Kenneth Orem, Ralph Orem, and Donald Dale Orem; and one sister, Joyce Adams.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort from 4-7 pm. Funeral service will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastors Mike Flowers and Ted Orem officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery in Colfax.
