Ruthie Bettis Bower Miller, 91, danced her way into heaven to be with her beloved Jesus, on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. She was born December 25, 1924, in Bulls Gap, TN, to Harvey and Lucy Pierce Barnes. Throughout her life, Ruthie had lived in Middlefork, Frankfort, Monticello, and Delphi, and was currently residing in Westfield.
Ruthie was a life-long Bluegrass Music lover. She played the guitar and spoons and loved to clog. Dancing was her passion. For years, she had a Bluegrass Band called, âThe Country Troubadours.â The Band took top honors at the Indiana State Fair two years in a row. Her Band entertained at nursing homes, county fairs, and festivals. Her joy in life was making people laugh and putting a smile on their faces and in their hearts. A CNA at Maple Park Village said, âRuthie has danced her way into the hearts of many.â
Staying close to her roots, Ruthie fixed fried chicken, fried okra, and cornbread in her iron skillets for anyone that would eat. If you got close to Ruthie, you were soon learning to play Euchre and all sorts of card games. Husbands, Phillip and Bill took her camping, and all of her husbands helped her grow beautiful flowers that she adored.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge Auxiliary, Elks Lodge Auxiliary, and Moose Lodge Auxiliary.
Surviving Ruthie are her two daughters, Jane Bettis Edwards of Edinburgh, and Judy (Don) Ackerson of Westfield; a brother, Rex (Glenna) Barnes of Greenville, TN; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruthie is preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, Clyde Bettis, Phillip Bower, and Bill Miller; four brothers, one sister, and son-in-law, Dennis L. Edwards.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 12:00 noon to the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Whiteman Cemetery in Michigantown.
