Samuel Ivan âSamâ Holliger, 89, of Frankfort, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 6, 2015.
He was born October 11, 1926, in Goodfield, IL, to John A. and Lydia Ann Reeser Holliger. On December 7, 1947, he married Laura Lane in Peoria; she survives.
Sam attended Goodfield High School before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for 37 years at Norfolk Southern Railroad as both a conductor and brakeman before retiring. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church where he served on the church council. Sam was a life member and past commander of the American Legion, life member of the VFW, and member of Masonic Lodge #54, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, York Rite of Frankfort, and Shriners. He also delivered for Meals on Wheels.
In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by four children, Jeri Ann (John) Kieninger of Rochester, Kathy Jean (Robert) Kieninger of Shelbyville, Michael Douglas Holliger of Frankfort, and James Russell (Barbara) Holliger of Lynn; brother, Louis (Betty) Holliger of Eureka, IL; sister, Frieda Allen of Morton, IL; ten grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 3:00 â 7:00 p.m. with Masonic rites beginning at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Apostolic Christian Church in Lafayette.
