Stephen S. “Steve” Bonney, 84, of Lafayette, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home. He was born June 17, 1940, in Hart, Michigan to Kenneth and Marye (Bellinger) Bonney. He married Patty London on March 3, 1967, in Commerce, Texas, and she survives.
Steve was a graduate of Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas, received his undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Arlington, and then his master’s degree from East Texas A&M (Formerly East Texas State). He served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War. Steve was a professor of Chemistry for University of Kentucky. He retired in 2005. He was a member of Sustainable Agriculture. He enjoyed gardening and growing things naturally on the land. He loved working his ten acres and being outside working the land. He was a jack of many trades and enjoyed being self-sufficient and taking care of his family.
Along with his wife of 58 years, Steve is survived by his children, Kristen Baker and Ben (Cara) Bonney; grandchildren, Nick (Olivia) Baker, Claire Baker, Jack Baker and Pete Baker; and a great grandchild, Opal Marie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Stuart Bonney, David Bonney, Sue Hinkle- Barrett, and Jon Bonney.
