Susan Dee (Orem) Hollis

Susan Dee Hollis, 71, of Flora, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at her home.  She was born in Burlington, Indiana, on April 12, 1952, to Kenneth and Eva (Garrett) Orem.  She married Gerry Hollis on July 15, 1973, and he survives.

Susan was a 1970 graduate of Carroll High School.  She attended Indiana University where she earned her master’s degree in education.  She taught at several schools with the majority of her career spent at Carroll Elementary and Northwestern Elementary.  Her teaching career spanned over 4 decades. She was a member of the Flora Presbyterian Church and had served as a member of the session.

Susan enjoyed traveling all over the world, painting, tap dancing, playing the piano, reading, antiquing, collecting hats, camping, and riding bikes with her family.  She loved all animals and especially dogs.

Along with her husband of 50 years, Susan is survived by her daughter, Erika (Aaron Howe) Hollis; brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Orem and a granddaughter, Echo Hollis.  Extended family; Dale and Sarah Orem, Dawn, Glenda, and Darlene.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Orem.

Memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 12pm at Flora Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Chuck Compton will officiate.  inurnment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.  Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Reinke Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s honor to the ASPCA, your local animal shelter, or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
