Thelma Ruth Dommestrup, affectionately known as “Aunt Ruth” to many, 87, of Frankfort, passed away at her residence on February 13, 2025. She was born in Rutledge, Tennessee on April 20, 1937, to Uless and Jan (Myers) Bowers.
Aunt Ruth was a 1955 graduate of Forest High School. She worked as an insurance agent and owned Garrett Insurance Agency. She was a member of Victory Chapel. Ruth was very active in the community and had special place in her heart for veterans. She had made over 7000 quilts that she had donated to veterans all over the state. Her heart for giving, love for the community, and her unique personality will be missed by all that have met her.
She is survived by her son, Russell Garrett; daughter Rita Catherine Richard; brother Paul Bowers; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Garrett; children, Skip Garrett, Ruby Turner, and Randal Jefferson Garrett.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 5pm until time of the memorial service at 7pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Memorial contributions may be made to the local American Legion or VFW posts. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
