Thomas B. Padgett, 75, of Kirklin, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 25, 1938, in Tipton County, the son of Jesse Byron and Mary Eloise Wheeler Padgett. On November 25, 1960, he married the former Nancy K. Price; They were married for 52 years and she survives.
In 1956, Tom graduated from Kirklin High School and attended the University of Indianapolis. Thomas worked for Stark and Wetzel in Indianapolis for nine years before working for the Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis for 26 ½ years. After his retirement, Tom went to work part time for Shopwright and Marsh Grocery for 12 years. Tom was a member of Kirklin Christian Church where he served as deacon and a former member of the Kirklin Lions Club. He sang in the quartet, The Gospel Echoes, for 12 years. Tom enjoyed golfing, gardening, southern gospel music, working crossword puzzles and feeding the birds and squirrels. He was also a baseball coach in the Kirklin and Michigantown Little League programs for several years.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas âByronâ (Jody) Padgett of Kirklin, Robin Ann Padgett of Indianapolis, and Brooks Ward (Irma) Padgett of Brownsburg; two grandsons, Logan Robert Padgett and Dylan Thomas Padgett; step granddaughter, Lauren Marie Woods; and one sister-in-law, Jane Padgett.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, one step-son, Scott; and one brother, Max Padgett.
Visitation for Tom will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013, from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Joe McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. Memorials in Tomâs name may be made to American Cancer Society (specifically for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
