Thomas L. âTomâ Simon, Sr., 67, of Mulberry, died 11:30 p.m. Aug. 27, 2011 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born Aug. 8, 1944 in Indianapolis, the son of Herman Leroy and Mary Ellen (Bell) Simon. His step-father was Paul Huber, Sr. He married Elaine Wilson Dec. 18, 1965, and she survives.
He graduated Clinton Prairie High School in 1962 and was a veteran in the U.S. Army, 1964-1967, serving in Germany. He worked at Federal Mogal as a machinist 42 years and retired in 2009. He was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church, Burning Hearts Community, Mulberry Community Club, and was a charter member of Mulberry Fire & Ambulance, serving 20 years.
He also served on five Emmaus Walks; served with Retreats in Motion; was involved with youth groups through his church and was a baseball coach with his boys. He was a Bears fan who enjoyed menâs breakfasts and was involved with his grandkids. Tom was loved by many and was picked by Elaine to be the love of her life.
He is survived by his wife of Mulberry; three sons, Tom (wife Kellie) Simon, Jr., Mulberry, Patrick Simon, Mulberry and Matthew (wife Wendy) Simon, Frankfort; two sisters, Carolyn Kukman, Paragon, and Peg (husband Ron) Cobb, Delta, Fla.; one half-brother, Paul âBudâ (wife Andrea) Huber II, Mulberry; and seven grandchildren, Heather, Katelyn, Whitney, Kara, Kayla, Jacob and Brett.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry, with Pastor Nancy Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Haven Cemetery. Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry.
