Vaughn R. Augst

Vaughn R. Augst, 79, formerly of Bringhurst, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.

He was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Lake Odessa Village, Mich., to Gerald Augst and Rose (Cook) Augst. He graduated in 1957 from Woodland High School in Michigan. On June 8, 1957, he married Carolyn Erb; she survives.

Vaughn worked very hard throughout his life, working many years for MetLife Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Delphi and along with his wife, helped start and build the Faith Baptist Church in Mattawan, Mich., where they attended for several years.

Along with his wife, Vaughn is survived by his children, Gary Augst (Debby) of Commerce, Ga., Jason Augst (Christie) of Wilmington, N.C., Vickie Ayres (Richard) of Bringhurst, Cheryl French (Bruce) of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Celeste Mandley of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Terris Ayres (Amanda), Tiffany Noblitt (Brett), Taylor Augst, Jeremy Eggers (Kayla), Aaron French (Stacy), Caleb French (Jenny), Heather and Benjamin Mandley, Stephanie Underwood (Andrew), and Cameron, Kiersten, Keaton and Kelsey Augst; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Rockafellow of Charlotte, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Owen Augst; and sister, Geraldine Winsley.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 3, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel, Flora, from 11 a.m. until the start of the service at 1 p.m. Pastor Bill Glenn will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
