Violet DeVore, 85, of Mulberry, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at her daughter Ritaâs home in Lafayette.
She was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Little Barron, Ky., to James Samuel âJimSamâ and Susan Rogers Young. She married Bernice âBernieâ DeVore Feb. 9, 1946, and he preceeded her in death Sept. 13, 2000.
Violet DeVore was the last remaining survivor of 16 children. She worked in the house keeping department at Mulberry Lutheran Home for 20 years, and retired in 1988. She had also lived in Jamestown, Ohio. She was a member of Wea Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir.
She is survived by a daughter: Rita Livengood of Lafayette; three sons: Edwin (Sue) DeVore of Russell, Kentucky, and Don (Ute) DeVore and Michael DeVore, both of Mulberry; five grandsons: Jerry Livengood, James, Kevin, Mark, and Steven DeVore; four granddaughters: Ginger DeVore, Amanda (DeVore) Kistler, Rebekah Devore, and Melissa DeVore; and two step-granddaughters: Rebecca Jackson, and Britney Loveless; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson: Paul Lynn Devore; four brothers: Jack Young, Otis Young, Dennis Young, and LaRue Young; three sisters: Bessie Russell, Flossie Robertson and Beatrice âBeeâ Whitlock.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Wea Ridge Baptist Church, Lafayette, with Dan Sager officiating.
