Virgie Mae Irmeger

Virgie Mae Irmeger, age 83, passed peacefully into eternal life Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Lafayette.

She was born to Clarence and Laura (Gripe) Idle on June 11, 1932. Virgie graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1951 from a class of 365. She was married to Virgil W. Irmeger on July 20. 1952 at The Pyrmont Church of the Brethren, by Rev. John LaPrad. Virgil preceded her in death on September 1, 2003.

Along with raising five children, she was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She distributed Raleigh and Amway products and loved interacting with customers when she worked at McDonald’s. Virgie very much enjoyed her volunteer work at Home Hospital. She was a member for many years of The Dolly Madison Extension Homemakers Club where she held different offices. Virgie also enjoyed camping, traveling, going to Beef-N-Boards, playing euchre, doing word search puzzles and watching Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune.

As an active member of the Pyrmont Church of the Brethren, she served as Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and attended many activities in the Women’s Fellowship and various other capacities serving The Lord.

Surviving family members include her children, Linda (Bill) Graves of Frankfort, Ronald (Diana) Irmeger and Randy Irmeger of Rossville, and Ed Irmeger of Lafayette and Jean Brower of TN; son-in-law, Dave Brower of Rossville, daughter-in-law, Kathy Irmeger (Toby) George of Rossville and her best friend from high school, Mrs. Doris (Tom) Parsley of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Jason Graves, Stacy (Todd) England, Justin (Sarah) Irmeger, Jeremy Irmeger, Megan (Justin) Clawson, Kristine Brower and Kyle Brower; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan Knox Graves, Bryant, Nevin, Rosealynn and Ayleeahna England, Emma and Kylee Irmeger and Owen Clawson.

In addition to her parents, husband and step-mother, Alma Fields, she was preceded in death by her four siblings Bob and Kenneth Idle, Fern Leslie and Ruby Inman and one great-granddaughter, Amity Rose England.


Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016, from 1:00p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home-Rossville Chapel. Pastor Guy Studebaker will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Pyrmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The American Heart Association or to Clinton County Cancer in Virgie’s name would be welcomed.
