Virginia Burkhalter went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2011 at 5:52AM at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, IN. She was born May 13, 1919 on a farm in Tippecanoe County, the daughter of Nora (Coleman) and John T. Roth. Virginia graduated from Dayton High School in 1937 and worked for Purdue University in food service at one time serving in the home of the Purdue president. On July 6, 1938 she married Evan A. Burkhalter of Mulberry and he preceded her in death on Nov. 3 1994.
Virginia was a âstay at home motherâ and enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved to read, especially to children, garden and create floral arrangements. She and her husband, âAlâ were excited to experience Australia, Central America, Europe, Russia and various other countries in their retirement years. She love to cook, bake and make all kinds of candy for family dinners and holidays. She enjoyed being a part of the Mulberry Community. She was a member of Trinity Church of Mulberry and currently attended Grace United Methodist in Kokomo to be closer to family. She was also a member of the Mulberry Garden Club, Mulberry Motherâs Club, Mulberry Community Club, was a Cub Scout Leader and served with Habitat for Humanity along with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Harold Roth, Elmer Roth and her sisters Lucille (Roth) Miller and Harriet (Roth) Murphy. A grandson Mark Edward Burkhalter also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Edward (wife Audrey) Burkhalter of Burlington, Ronald (wife Janet) Burkhalter of Kokomo and Dennis (wife Michele) Burkhalter of Shelbyville. Grandchildren are Andrea (husband Bruce) Gillen of Zionsville, Sheri Burkhalter of Mooresville, Brad (wife Melissa) Burkhalter of Kokomo and Renee (husband Bart) Miller of Kokomo. She is also survived by Great Grandchildren, Danyelle, LauraLee, John, Hannah, Kayla, Emma Grace and Nathaniel Gillen, A.J. and Bryan Burkhalter and Nolan and Kylie Miller.
Visitation will be Friday December 30, 2011 from 4 -7pm at Bodine Funeral Home in Mulberry. Celebration of Life services will be held at Trinity Church in Mulberry at 1:00PM Saturday December 31, 2011 with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Trinity Church of Mulberry or United Methodist Women of Grace at Grace UMC in Kokomo or Habitat for Humanity.
