Virginia Roberta Shively, 86, of Rossville, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013, at Milner Community Health Care.
Roberta was born January 24, 1927, in Charleston, IL, the daughter of Robert Lee and Virginia Spence Slaughter. On July 18, 1948, she married Glen J. Shively in Frankfort; he survives.
Roberta graduated from Frankfort High School in 1947 and worked as a telephone operator for several years. In 1953, Roberta moved from Frankfort to Rossville. She was a homemaker and member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church for 40 years. Roberta was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron.
In addition to her husband, Roberta is survived by three children, Michael L. (Gail) Shively of Rossville, Michele Payne of Lafayette, and Mitchell (Annette) Shively of Delaware, OH; one brother, Robert L. (Esther) of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Brian Shively, Heath Shively, Shanda Lee, and Clarke Burton Payne III; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Dennis Shively; one infant brother, and one infant sister.
Visitation for Roberta will be held from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor John Everett officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.
