Wanda Dean Hayes, 92, of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort.
She was born October 22, 1921, in Frankfort, the daughter of Maynard M. and Cecil Marie Carver Lipp. She was raised by her step mother, Bertha May Ferree Lipp, due to the untimely death of her mother at 16 months of age. On November 9, 1941, she married Ralph J. Hayes; he preceded her in death May 1, 1986.
Wanda worked for Dr. Lynn Rodenbarger and later Dr. Larry Rothenberger as a receptionist. Wanda played the piano for First Baptist Church until 1955 and then played the organ at First Presbyterian Church until she retired. She loved to sew and loved the Lord, to read and study her bible, and her family.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Ronna Hayes Gossett (Keith) Merrill of Frankfort and Jan Hayes (Bill) McCollum of Frankfort; grandchildren, Erik (Brenda) Gossett, Michelle (Greg) Ford, Brett Gossett, and Michael (Tracie) McCollum; and great grandchildren, Johnathen (Ellana) Gossett, Pacia Ford, Joshua Ford, Gabriel McCollum, and Gavin McCollum.
In addition to her husband, Wanda is preceded in death by her father, mother, step mother, and infant son, Gary Hayes.
Visitation for Wanda will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, at First Church of the Nazarene in Frankfort from 2:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Michael McCollum will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort. Memorials in Wandaâs name may be made to First Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.
