William A. Stong

William A. “Bill” Stong, 90, of Rossville, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Milner Community Health Care.

He was born January 4, 1926, in Carroll County, to Larry and Lucy Mohler Stong.  On June 27, 1948, he married LeVaughn Harper; she passed away on September 3, 2012.

Bill attended Cutler High School and later received his GED when he was in his 60’s.  Bill grew up in the Cutler area but lived in Rossville for 64 plus years.  He worked as the supervisor of the maintenance department at Wesley Manor and also worked at St. Elizabeth for many years.  He and his wife attended WCTU meetings; he was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, member of the Clinton County Ham Radio Club, using the handle of K9FUE, and was a member and played with a Joyful Noise Singing Group.  Bill loved music, and he discovered he was very talented at electronically mixing music. Bill was a very quiet man but at times, he was the family clown and loved providing laughter.  He played “Willy” Claus at family events and sang all the verses.

Bill is survived by his nieces, Beverly (John) Bryan of Lafayette, and Rosemary (Max) Underhill of Sun City, AZ; and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Bill is preceded in death by his parents and two half-sisters, Gladys and Gertrude.
