William E. âBillâ Miller, 86, of Delphi, passed away early morning on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at IU Health in Lafayette with his son, Gregory, by his bedside.
He was born March 25, 1927, to Clyde E. and Leola R. Mellinger Miller in Newtown. Bill was raised in the Pyrmont and Buck Creek areas. On October 19, 1947, Bill married Elsie Annette Miller; she passed away in 1999. He married Shirley Hafey in 2001; she passed away in 2005. Bill later married Glenna Ruth Bower on September 27, 2006; she survives.
In 1944 at age 17, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Oak Hill during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. Bill worked for Alcoa, Fairfield, and the Brown Rubber Co. in Lafayette. He retired from Better Brands in 1984 after 21 years of service and from Delphi City Police in 1991 after 27 years of service. He served two terms as Delphi City Council upon his retirement. Bill was a member of the American Legion #492 of West Lafayette and life member of V.F.W #9383 of Delphi. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, hunting mushrooms, dining out, and camping.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Tonie Miller of Lafayette, Greg (Pat) Miller of Delphi, and Brad (Robin) Miller of Delphi; step daughters, Jane Edwards and Judy Ackerson; sister, Gladys Eller of Pyrmont; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his wives, he is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Su-Lynn Miller; two brothers, Paul Miller and Ralph Miller; and one sister, Ruby Tucciarelli.
Visitation for Bill will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until the start of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Bill Tulley will officiate.
