William Lee Helvie

William Lee “Bill” Helvie, 85, of Flora, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at IU Health Arnett in Lafayette.  

He was born December 3, 1928, in Flora, to C. Edward and Edna Marie Sibbitt Helvie.  On July 9, 1949, he married Patricia M. Kenrick in Flora; she survives.  Together they shared 65 years of marriage.

Bill owned and operated Helvie House Movers Inc. for 51 years before retiring in 1994.  The business has been family owned for four generations.  Bill had been a member of Flora First Christian Church for 65 years and Lions Club member for 45 years.  He enjoyed riding his bike, walking, activities at the Community Center, camping, traveling, and wintering in Florida for 13 years.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Tom (Kathie) Helvie, Terry (Debi) Helvie, and Lisa (Jeff) McIlrath; one brother, John Helvie; seven grandchildren, Angie Marsh, Scott (Amy) Helvie, Mark Helvie, Lora (Dean) Helvie-Mason, David (Brandi) Helvie, Mary (Jordan) Richards, and Shon McIlrath; and eight great grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Flora Christian Church with Pastor Woody Slade officiating.  Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.  Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to Flora Christian Church.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
