William P. âBillâ Ferrel, 81, of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born June 20, 1934, in Houston, TX, to Virgil and Emily Ruth Pearman Ferrel. On October 3, 1954, he married Fern M. Shearer; she passed away January 7, 2015.
Bill graduated from Paris High School in Paris, IL. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas, Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, and Ft. Hood in Killen, TX. He moved to Frankfort after his service. Bill received his degree for Radiology Technician through his education at Fort Hood, Ball State, and IU Medical Center. Throughout his life, Bill was a farmer and worked for 13 years at Dornerâs Chevrolet in Frankfort. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, ceramics, sports, NASCAR, and spending time with his family.
Surviving Bill are his five children, William S. (Bonnie) Ferrel, Steven D. (Wendie) Ferrel, Phillip L. (Kim) Ferrel, Jon E. (Naomi) Ferrel, and Mary Kay Ferrel (John) Baker; sister; Virginia Sullivan of Paris, IL; ten grandchildren, Kristen (Ryan) Scott, David Ferrel, Andrew (Kelsey) Ferrel, Bradley (Heavenli) Baker, Garrett Ferrel, Matthew (Aleesa) Ferrel, Taylor Ferrel, Mitchell Ferrel, Ashley Ferrel, and Megan Ferrel; one great grandson, Cayden; and two great granddaughters, Reese and Averie.
In addition to his wife, Bill is preceded in death by his parents and three brother-in-laws, Edwin Sullivan, Robert Shearer and Lee Shearer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015, at 10.30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Karen Bray officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. Memorials in Billâs name may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church or St. Matthew Community Preschool. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.
