Woodrow W. Cook, 94, formerly of rural Lafayette, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
He was born April 14, 1921, in Oliver Springs, Tenn., the son of Frank and Emma Tipton Cook. On March 26, 1943, he marries Margaret S. Saladino; she preceded him in death on March 28, 2013.
At age 16, Woodrow worked for the Wind Rock Coal Co. in Tennessee before entering the United States Army in 1941. He then graduated from the Army Coyne Electronics School in Chicago. In 1983, he retired from Purdue University as an electrician in the Physical Plant after 28 years. After his retirement, Woodrow and his wife enjoyed wintering in Zephyrhills, Fla., for several years. He also raised rabbits and enjoyed oil painting.
Woodrow is survived by his children, son Tom Cook and wife, Lorie (Garriott) of Lafayette; grandchildren Wes Cook and wife, Naomi (Kirkpatrick); and Marci (Cook) Kuhlman and husband Justin Kuhlman; great-granddaughters Lacie and Baylee Kuhlman of Lafayette, IN; son Robert Cook and wife, Ellen (Snuffer) of Bahama, NC; son, John Cook and Willina Owens of Mitchell, IN; daughter Johanna (Cook) Hostetter and husband, Mark Hostetter of Talbott, TN; daughter, Rebecca (Cook) Miller and husband, J.D Miller of Nicholasville, KY; granddaughter Kelly (Cook) Pendergraft and husband Keith Pendergraft; great-granddaughter Lydia Pendergraft of Durham, NC; grandson Kip Cook and wife Melissa Cook and twin great-grandsons Gavin and Peyton Cook of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Cheryl (Smith) Dortch and husband, Christ Dortch and great-grandson Carson Dortch of ; grandson, Jar of Mt. Sterling, KY; grandson, Jared Richey; granddaughter Margo (Richey) Young and great-granddaughter Skylar Young and great-grandsons Kirk Young and Gryfen of Lexington, KY; granddaughter Patricia (Smith) Statzer and husband, Whit Statzer; great-granddaughters Grace and Callie Statzer of Nicholasville, KY; and brother, Horas âDudeâ (Jean) Cook of Clinton, TN; other family survivors include close nephew Ralph and Karon Cook of Delphi, IN.
In addition to his wife, Woodrow is preceded in death by his parents, one son, William âBillyâ Cook; brothers, Carl Cook and Artie Cook; and sisters, Nellie Freels and Lillie Mayton.
Visitation for Woodrow will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Christ Dortch will officiate.
